what i mostly see in the legacy versions is people exporting obj and rigging them. So while I can't answer anything about the old versions - I can say there are many little clues that it was a hot mess - further I would think with all the poser users, we'd have a ton of those characters floating around with their poser rigs. and people complaining that the new characters are not compatible with the old poser. In fact, I'm going through a little adventure trying to find the right export settings for various native poser characters - they even have specific - traditional / legacy settings in 2014 with a choice of 4 skinning methods. for a long time poser was taboo because I kept hearing that their rigs and weight maps were incompatible with other systems. Sorry I announced this at the last minute of the sale, but i decided at the last minute to get it, the steep discount made me take the risk lol They have tweaked specifically 2014 pro with gamers in mind, unlikely to work the same with any of the other versions, including the most recent poser 10 - as they don't have collada export. With 2014 pro, they also introduced plug ins for c4d, max, maya and lightwave. No on the fbx export- they export collada, but the autodesk converter does a good job of converting it. Please note that it may take up to 48 hours to receive your registration number via email to install the software.Ya, the problem in past version was their weight mapping, they changed it in 2014 to be pixel weight mapping - making it more compatible with other programs. Note the use of the header() function when outputting to the browser. Search for the page on the "header()" function on this website for more details.Įxample: Let's say that you are outputting to a jpeg using imagejpeg(). This page actually clearly shows the difference between "outputting" to a browser and "saving" to a file, but the code comments don't clearly state what the difference is. Many of the examples programmers illustrate on the web output to the browser and do not save anything to the file system, therefore, the header() function seems essential to image manipulation for the first-time user of the GD library. If you are outputting to the browser check your imagejpeg() for parameter 2. The browser is expecting image information therefore, if you are outputting to a file, you don't need a header() function at all. Solution: Start with removal of the header() function if you plan to output to a file. At the same time your manipulated image saves to a file. Problem: The URL of the current page is displaying in the browser window as an image file. So, let's suppose you have a form where a user can upload an image, and you have to scale it and save it into your database. Here's a complete solution to READ any image (gif jpg png) from the FILESYSTEM, SCALE it to a max width/height, SAVE the scaled image to a BLOB field keeping the original image type. hope this will save time to other people! I didn't find any example like this on the Web, so I mixed pieces together. Instead, she can be sealed away by a powerful artifact known as a "Gem of Eternity", but it can only contain her for a few decades before she escapes, and each time she escapes, a new gem must be crafted in order to capture her again. There is no known way to destroy The Forgotten or to banish her back to the Demon Realm from which she was summoned. Described as "a fully black female torso with disfigured arms, a head with long hair and no face", the Forgotten commands her legions in order to conquer the "Spiritforge", the last bastion of the wizards, in order to become omnipotent. Wizards used to regularly summon demons to do their bidding until they brought forth a demon too powerful for them to control, who was also capable of subduing other demons under her command. It depicts the battles of wizards against a powerful demon known as "The Forgotten". Combining two gems creates a single more powerful gem, with the gem's power level indicated by its shape. A key aspect of strategy in GemCraft is to increase the player's mana gain to high levels, enabling creation of stronger and stronger gems. With mana, the player can forge and combine gems and build towers, trenches, and traps. The player's life bar and magic energy are represented by the same statistic- mana. Click on spell buttons, click to place buildings, drag gems to where you need them. Different combinations of gems produce different effects, such as splash damage, damage over time, and critical hit capability. In GemCraft, players are given gems to combine and place into towers. This short story contains ideas which were later more developed in the Worldwar series, in which the invading aliens have an initial technological edge that is soon surpassed by human ingenuity and innovation. It is a prequel story to "Herbig-Haro"-set several centuries after humanity has conquered the Orion Arm of the Milky Way- published a year before under the name "Eric Iverson". The story was first published in Analog Science Fiction in 1985. Unlike the broad reaching implications of the technology that Earth has developed, the gravity manipulation has no other uses.Īs Togram and another Roxolani captive realize that they have now given a far more advanced civilization the means to travel to countless worlds, the story closes with the two asking themselves, "What have we done?" Publication history In contrast, humanity somehow missed developing gravity technology and advanced further technologically. However, adopting the technology allowing for interstellar travel (and wars of conquest on a galactic scale) stifles further technological development as all the creative energies of societies that find it go into perfecting it. This enabled them to engage in wars of conquest on a galactic scale. When they are interrogated, the truth becomes evident: the method of manipulating gravity is absurdly simple, and species like the Roxolani are thus able to use faster than light travel with relatively primitive technological sophistication. The battle is short, and most of the invaders are killed. Humans retaliate with automatic weapons and missiles. But as they begin their assault, things take a turn for the absurd-the Roxolani attack with matchlock weapons and black powder explosives. The Roxolani anticipate a simple and rewarding campaign, as they can detect no use of gravity manipulation, the cornerstone of their civilization. During a routine journey of conquest, they happen upon Earth. The story is told through limited third person point of view, with most of the story concerning a single Roxolani captain, Togram. She told him that when she looked at the photos from the Ambassador, she saw a brave young man who tried to help someone who’d been hurt, even as others retreated. His buddy Chacon and I told him he had nothing to apologize for, but Romero knelt at the grave, spoke softly and wept.įive years later, Romero emailed me to say he was finally feeling better with the help of a friend he had met on Facebook. He said he wanted to pay his respects, tell Kennedy he had tried to live a life of tolerance and humility, and to apologize. In 2010, I met up with Romero in Washington and went with him to Arlington National Cemetery, where RFK is buried. He got tired of being asked by Ambassador guests to pose for photographs, found work in Wyoming, then made his home in San Jose. That made him uncomfortable, and so did letters from people asking him why he didn’t do something to prevent the assassination. He still had Kennedy’s blood on his hand and said he chose not to wash it off.Īs if the experience wasn’t traumatic enough, Romero said he got letters from people congratulating him for what he did. Romero was taken to the Rampart police station for questioning, then took a bus to Roosevelt High the next morning. MORE: The assassination of Robert Kennedy, as told 50 years later » Romero said he was carrying rosary beads in his pocket and stuffed them into Kennedy’s hands. Romero thought that the pops were from firecrackers and that Kennedy had fallen in fright, but Romero then saw blood spilling onto his own hand and realized what had happened as Sirhan Sirhan, the man with the gun, was apprehended. He said that just as he shook Kennedy’s hand, the shots were fired. The next night, after Kennedy won California’s Democratic primary and made a victory speech, he retreated through the kitchen pantry area and Romero pushed through the crowd to congratulate him. He became an Ambassador busboy on the advice of his strict stepfather, who worked at the hotel and wanted Romero to be sure to stay out of trouble on the streets of East Los Angeles. “I remember walking out of that room … feeling 10 feet tall, feeling like an American,” said Romero, who had moved to Los Angeles from Mexico seven years earlier. Romero told me he had met Kennedy the night before when the candidate ordered room service, and he felt honored by the way Kennedy shook his hand firmly and looked him in the eye with respect. When I met Romero in 1998, just before the 30th anniversary of the assassination, he fell apart in recalling the fateful night and how he happened to be in the hotel pantry area where Kennedy was shot. In our many conversations over the years, he said he often felt we were moving further politically from what he saw as a Kennedy legacy of tolerance and compassion. Romero was in the habit of leaving flowers at that monument each year to mark RFK’s death. Kennedy and 1968 (Carlos Chavez / Los Angeles Times) In your words: Share your memories of Robert F. “There could be no better memorial to my father than a living memorial that educates the children of this city,” said Max Kennedy, son of RFK, at a groundbreaking ceremony on Nov. Kennedy’s family had supported the razing of the building to make way for a new public school. Workers demolish a wing of the 85-year-old Ambassador Hotel, where Robert F. The candidate had spoken there not long before his death and told throngs of supporters that poverty and illiteracy were indecent, and he warned of “an erosion of a sense of national decency.” That day, we met at a downtown San Jose park, near a monument to Kennedy. His marriage had failed many years earlier, but he said he was in regular contact with his children from that marriage, and he was giddy about a new romance with a Modesto woman. When I met with Romero in June, on the 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s death, he told me he loved the hard, sweaty work of paving driveways and roads, and he had no intention of retiring. “He passed away on Monday morning.”Ī niece and a brother confirmed Romero’s death, but family members were unavailable for comment. “He had a heart attack several days ago and his brain went too long without oxygen,” said his longtime friend, TV newsman Rigo Chacon of San Jose. That only made the news of Romero’s death this week in Modesto, at age 68, seem all the more tragic. Many in the art world say that MOCA, which opened in 1979, has been overshadowed by the Broad, which reported annual attendance in 2019 of 917,489 MOCA had 357,747 visits (though attendance has grown over the last five years). In 2008, he brought the museum back from the brink of collapse with a $30 million bailout and five years ago he opened the Broad contemporary art museum across the street. MOCA’s founding chairman was the billionaire philanthropist and contemporary art collector Eli Broad, who died on Friday. The museum also laid off 97 part-time staff members (about 30 full-time employees who were furloughed have returned).īut MOCA’s current trials have come just as the museum was hoping to emerge from a tumultuous history that has included two short-term directors, a raid on its endowment to pay the bills and a proposed merger with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. During its yearlong closure because of Covid-19, MOCA’s revenue dropped 26 percent and membership 32 percent. To be sure, museums all over the country have been dealing with economic challenges caused by the pandemic and with staff pressure over diversity issues in light of the Black Lives Matter movement. Yet just days before, the museum, known as MOCA, had confirmed two key resignations: a senior curator, who departed citing museum leaders’ resistance to diversity initiatives, and the director of human resources, who said he left because of a “hostile” work environment.Īnd just two months earlier, the institution had announced that Biesenbach, who was hired in 2018 from MoMA PS1 in Queens, would no longer hold the title of director but would be called “artistic director” and share power with an “executive director” for whom a search is currently underway. Talking about plans to reopen on June 3 and recent building improvements he has made as director, he came across like a guy with his hands on the steering wheel. LOS ANGELES - Klaus Biesenbach strutted through the Geffen Contemporary, the Museum of Contemporary Art’s warehouse exhibition space recently, stylish in his signature midnight blue suit and black ankle boots.
